Score Editors & other Professions
There are many professions related to music. Besides composers and musicians themselves, we can also find in this category the score editors, people that publish the musical pieces on books or sheets of paper for us to buy them and play the music. We decided to try some of these interesting musical activities... for a day! Take a look!

"Mörköooppera", Finland
|
In November 2012, the Finnish team performed "Mörköooppera", a kind of a musical, directed by Johanna Mastola. Mörköooppera is a story of friendship and loneliness, unfortunately a stunningly current subject. Many Finnish children suffer with busy parents. Liisa is an ordinary girl, who suffers from loneliness and too busy parents. One night, she suddenly finds Mörkö under her bed. Mörkö and Liisa become friends, and Liisa notices that Mörkö also has his own worries and problems.
Making the Mörköooppera has been a journey for all of us, and during the journey there has happened a lot. In the beginning, there was a big bunch of adults and children, who decided to walk towards a shared destination, Mörköooppera. During that time the group tightened mentally, and something miraculous happened. Individuals became US. It has been a priviledge to follow this journey towards its final performance. Thanks from the trust to everybody involved in the show. Thanks also to all the staff at Keskuskoulu for every bit of help. This project is again a proof that working together makes magic! I hope that all the adults would find time to stop and wonder this world together with their child. | Sari Kallio, Finland

New Year Concerts, Portugal
|
Inspired on Viena's New Year Concerts, this 'tradition' started in 2009 at the Portuguese school. It aims to encourage students to play music before a live audience (even one filled with schoolmates). In the end, it's the audience's turn to play along with the orchestra! Each person helds a musical instrument and has to play according to a 'square score' made by other students in 2011. Watch the photos and listen to the recording of that cheerful moment.

Teachers can try it, too!
|
Why not? Two teachers from the Portuguese school decided to try being "musicians for a day" too by joining the "Real Orquestra da Grande Malha Ortogonal de Espinho" (Real Orchestra of Espinho) in July 2013. Directed by the British maestro and composer Tim Steiner, this orchestra involved students from the music schools of the town and some locals singing or playing an instrument. This concert was part of a Summer festival called "Festival do Norte".

2. "Nortada" by Tim Steiner (Strong winds from the north) |
3. "Espinho!" by Tim Steiner (Espinho is the name of the Portuguese town) |
COMPOSERS for a day!
Composing is fun, that's the opinion of the Portuguese little ones from classes 5.2 and 5.3. They wrote little melodies with two notes only to play on the recorder. PTclass7D tried beatbox with the help of Incredibox, a free online tool. But the real artists come from Croatia. Listen to their beautiful compositions.
